My sequence steps are failing: common causes and fixes

If steps in your sequence are showing as failed, here are the most common causes and how to fix each one.

Email step failed

Cause: The email channel used for this step has disconnected.

Fix: Go to Settings > Channels, reconnect the channel, then retry the failed step from the sequence execution view.

Cause: The contact has no email address in the sheet.

Fix: Run a Find Email enrichment for that contact, then retry the step.

LinkedIn message step failed

Cause: You are not connected to the contact on LinkedIn.

Fix: Send a connection request first. If you're using Send Connection, this shouldn't happen — it only moves a contact to the message step once they've accepted. If you're on Send Connection (Legacy), add a Connection Check condition before message steps to prevent this in future, or see "Migrate from the legacy LinkedIn connection request to the new Send Connection action" to remove the need for a check step entirely.

Cause: The LinkedIn channel has disconnected.

Fix: Go to Settings > Channels, find the disconnected LinkedIn channel, click to reconnect and complete the authorisation flow, then retry.

WhatsApp message step failed

Cause: The WhatsApp channel used for this step has disconnected.

Fix: Go to Settings > Channels, reconnect the WhatsApp channel, then retry the failed step from the sequence execution view.

Cause: The contact has no WhatsApp number in the sheet.

Fix: Add a valid WhatsApp number for the contact, then retry the step.

LinkedIn connection request failed

Cause: You have hit your weekly connection request limit.

Fix: Wait until the limit resets (weekly), or reduce your daily connection request volume in your LinkedIn channel settings.

Send a Request (HTTP) step failed

Cause: Your destination URL returned a non-2xx response or timed out.

Fix: Check that your endpoint is live and responding within 15 seconds. Fix any issues on the receiving end, then retry the step.

General: retrying failed steps

To retry a failed step:

  1. Open the failed step in the sequencer.
  2. Go to the Activity tab and filter by Failed.
  3. Select the failed contacts and click Retry.

Credits are only charged if the retry succeeds.
